About 2km south of Deruta in Umbria, a town known for its tradition of fine ceramics craftspeople, is the church of Madonna Dei Bagni. Since the 17th century, the walls have been covered with hand-painted ceramic votive tiles, left in gratitude for escapes and recoveries from precarious, often life threatening situations. See Tiles
